Early Life and Education

WEB Jamaal Bowman was born on April 1, 1976, in Mount Vernon, New York. He attended public schools in the city and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in psychology from the College of New Rochelle.

Cornerstone Academy for Social Action

After witnessing firsthand the challenges faced by low-income families and children, Bowman founded the Cornerstone Academy for Social Action in 2002. The academy aimed to provide educational opportunities and support services to underserved communities.

Political Career

Bowman entered politics in 2014 when he ran for New York State Assembly. He was elected and served two terms, during which he advocated for progressive policies such as universal pre-K, affordable housing, and criminal justice reform.

US House Representative

In 2020, Bowman was elected to the US House of Representatives as a member of the Democratic Party. He represents New York's 16th Congressional District, which includes parts of the Bronx and Westchester County.

Activism and Advocacy

Throughout his career, Bowman has been a vocal advocate for education and social justice. He organized teachers and parents to challenge the opt-out movement in schools and has worked to reduce the school-to-prison pipeline.
